If you’re like me you’ll have spent countless hours daydreaming about what you would do if you won the lottery!

Well you can’t win if you don’t play. And did you know just how many European lotteries there are? Just be incredibly lucky and hope the stars line up for you for a life changing win. Here’s a roundup of the best lottos in Spain to start buying tickets for!

El Gordo de Navidad

This world famous Spanish lottery takes place only once a year. The prize pool is over 2 BILLION EUROS. The El Gordo de Navidad started way back in 1812 and has become a Spanish tradition, with people in other countries wanting to get in on the action too.

The draw is held in Madrid on 22nd of December, just in time to make some people’s Christmas the best holiday EVER! The draw is more than just a quick few numbers read out and that’s it. The ceremony takes hours. Children sing out the numbers drawn. It’s more like a raffle than a lottery and there are 13 main prizes to be won and hundreds of smaller ones. Instead of buying one ticket, like you would in a normal lottery, you buy a share of the ticket. And the ticket can be sold as many as 180 times so your whole community can get involved!

One major reason people like to play is the chances of winning is 1 in 100,000 compared to the euromillions where it’s 1 in 139 million. So if you’re going to play any lottery, this one gives you a good chance of winning something! How do I buy a ticket? If you’re in Spain you can buy one from many retail outlets, or online.

El Nino Lottery

Loteria del Nino (or the children’s lottery) follows not long after El Gordo on 6th Jan. The top prize is 2million euros and like El Gordo, tickets are split into decimos, so the top payout per decimo is 200,000euros.

La Primitiva

La Primitiva is the Spanish National lottery. 55% of the prize pool is allocated as prizes and the rest goes to charity and state programmes helping those in need.
